12. Add Consumables in Yeti 4.0

This article explains how to set up consumable materials and supplies in your Yeti 4.0 Catalog, define units of measurement, assign default client billing rates, and configure subcontractor pay rates.

Overview

Consumables in Yeti 4.0 represent physical materials and supplies (e.g., Bulk Salt, Brine, Bagged Salt, Ice Melt) used during field operations. Adding consumables to your Catalog allows you to track material usage or bill clients directly based on the exact quantities recorded by field operators in the mobile app.

Important Naming Rule: Units of Measurement

CRITICAL: Because Yeti 4.0 does not have a separate "Unit" field, you MUST include the unit of measurement directly in the consumable's name.

Examples:

  • Bulk Salt (kg)
  • Bagged Salt (20 kg)
  • Brine (Liters)
  • Bulk Salt (tonne)

All client charge rates and subcontractor pay rates apply per unit stated in the name.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access the Consumables Catalog

  1. Log in to your Yeti 4.0 account.
  2. From the left navigation menu, click Catalog to expand the section.
  3. Select Consumables.
  4. Click the + Add consumable button on the top right.

Step 2: Enter Basic Consumable Details

  1. Name: Enter the material name along with its unit of measurement (e.g., Bulk Salt (kg)).
  2. Name for Operator: (Optional) Customize the material display name shown to field crews in the mobile app.

Note: This field auto-fills with the consumable name but can be edited if needed.

  3. Group: Select an operational group from the dropdown menu (Misc, Snow, or Landscape).

Step 3: Configure Default Rates

  1. Client Charge Rate: Enter the default dollar rate charged to clients per unit.
    • If you want to track material usage without billing the client, leave this rate set to $0.00.
    • Rates set in the Catalog act as baseline defaults and can be revised on individual contract commitments.
  2. Subcontractor Pay Rate: (Optional) Enter the default rate paid to subcontractors if they supply their own consumables.
  3. Client Description: (Optional) Enter additional material details or notes for client reporting.

Step 4: Save the Consumable

  1. Review the material details and rates.
  2. Click Save Consumable.
How Consumables Work in Contracts & Mobile App

When setting up contract commitments, check Required for this work under the Consumables section. When operators run that route in the mobile app, they will be prompted to enter the exact quantity of materials used before completing the job.
